Guitar Hero…the Font?

Pentagram recently worked with video game giant Activision to clean up and consolidate the logo and overall look of the Guitar Hero franchise. The result is a subtle but effective streamlining of the logo that will maintain consistency across the brand. But more interesting to me is the “Guitar Hero font” they created!

Tyson Anthony Roberts, a Seattle-based artist, creates abstract landscapes that are quite compelling. I love how simple they are, while still conveying the feel of a place and scene. While my computer apparently didn’t like his website, he fortunately has a Flickr account as well.

This poster, created to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the National Repertory Orchestra, is just lovely. The letterpress creates great texture, and I love how the swirls around the edges of the violin echo the cuts in the instrument itself.

I’m currently loving the whimsical and playful necklaces and earrings made by Jill Antonishak of Finch Metal. With jewelry featuring paper airplanes (my favorite), swingsets, hopscotch, kites, and more, you’re guaranteed to find a piece that makes you feel like a kid again. Typographic Portraits

This year’s Grammy Awards, held back in February, used a lovely campaign called “Celebrate the music that makes us,” designed and implemented by TBWAChiatDay. I don’t know how I didn’t see this earlier! They spoke to artists like Stevie Wonder, Coldplay, and Rihanna to learn about the artists that inspired them. They then used those artists and lyrics from their songs to create these beautiful rainbow-colored typographic portraits. (seen on Wide Open Spaces)

Cherry Blossom

Spring arrives in south Texas early, and there are plenty of blooms to be found, from the famous bluebonnets to the hibicus bushes and crepe myrtles that dot my apartment complex. But sometimes I really, really just want to see a gorgeous blooming cherry tree like I saw growing up.

Sea Bags are inspired by and constructed with recycled sails, which means they’re durable, water resistant, and easily washed. They’re available in small, medium and large sizes (the large is big enough to carry everything you need for a day at the beach from towels to flip flops to snack). And the handles are made of nautical rope. Overall, they just look cool.
